Residents Evacuate, Hundreds of Houses Soaked in Floods on Buano Island
Jurnal Kini. Hundreds of homes of residents in Buano Utara (Village) Country, Huamual Belakang Sub-District, West Seram District, Maluku were flooded on Monday (01/07/2019).
Floods hit the village since Monday morning after heavy rains flushed the area since the last two days. The condition is getting worse because a lake in the village overflows to the homes of residents.
the flood height in the village reaches 3-4 meters. As a result of the flood, many residents were forced to flee to relatives' homes which were safe from flooding.
"There are already around 20 family heads who have started to flee now," said one of the North Buano Village youth leaders, Sehe Tamalene, when contacted from Ambon on Monday (7/1/2019).

He explained, currently around 150 houses are flooded, but so far no team from the West Seram district government has come to help local residents.
"We calculated that there were around 150 houses flooded. The most severe are those around the lake, they have all evacuated, if those who are far from the residents 'settlements, the inundation height reaches the deawas' knees, "he explained.
He claimed that flooding in his village often occurred when heavy rains flushed the village. He also hopes that the government will immediately address the causes of flooding so that residents do not always feel anxious when the rainy season arrives.
"While there has been no assistance, we hope that there will be immediate attention from the government," he hoped.
Regarding the disaster, the confirmed Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Seram Regency has not been successfully contacted.
