Fahri Hamzah Criticizes KPU on Election of Election Debate Panelists

Monitor Utama. Deputy Speaker of the House Fahri Hamzah criticized the General Election Commission (KPU) regarding the selection of panelists in the 2019 Presidential Election debate.

He regretted the selection of panelists was so tight with the debate time.
"In my opinion, the panelists will not be chosen at the end. Finally, what is the basis of what we don't know," Fahri said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (1/7/2019).

According to him, the KPU was actually able to formulate the name of the panelist earlier. Once the most recent Election Law comes out, the KPU can start working.

"This is not prepared from the start, eventually it becomes a lot of controversy," he said.

In addition, Fahri argued, panelists should be taken from academics. This actually reduced the controversy over the names of panelists who appeared.

Previously, Bambang Widjojanto and Coordinator of Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) Adnan Topan Husodo were withdrawn from a list of panelists debating the presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2019 Presidential Election.

According to KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan, the withdrawal of the two prospective panelists was a request from the campaign team of the presidential and vice presidential candidate pairs number 01 and 02.

Wahyu said that the withdrawal of the two candidate panelist names had been agreed by both campaign teams, both the National Campaign Team (TKN) Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin and the National Winning Body (BPN) Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno.

The debate of the 2019 Presidential Election will be held five times. The first debate is planned to be held on January 17, 2019.

The participants are pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates. The themes raised were law, human rights, corruption, and terrorism.
